Friday Night Lights kicks off its final season

Friday Night Lights box set wrapped production on the 13-episode Season 5 in Texas this summer — soon after stars Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler gained their first Emmy nominations for lead actoress and lead actor in a drama series Friday Night Lights dvd series, respectively.
NBC saved the critically acclaimed but ratings-challenged series from cancellation in 2008 when it struck a deal to broadcast new episodes first on DirecTV. In 2009, NBC ordered two more seasons under the same arrangement.
