The Vampire Diaries will 'return to books'

The Vampire Diaries dvd's executive producer Julie Plec has announced that the show will draw more storylines from the novels in future.
The CW programme is loosely based on a book series by L. J. Smith but season one of The Vampire Diaries box set was different from the original storylines.
However, Plec said that The Vampire Diaries dvd box set will start to stick more closely to the books in new episodes.
"The deeper we get into The Vampire Diaries season 1 dvd, ironically, the more we're going to be taking from the books," she said. "That's cool because we strayed so far so quickly, simply by definition, to try to shape a good story in the right way for television."
She added: "To find ourselves naturally returning to the source material and the villains that you met, it's kind of awesome."
