The CW network has picked up One Tree Hill for an eighth season despite fears from fans and actors that it would get the boot, while a remake of Melrose Place has been canceled.

Robert Buckley, who plays Clay Evans on One Tree Hill, had told OnTheRedCarpet.com earlier this month he and other cast members had formed a support group as they awaited word on their show's fate.

"It's official...SEASON 8!" a recent message on @RealOneTreeHill's Twitter feed read.

Also during the 2010-11 season, the CW also plans to air Nikita, a spy series based on the 1990 French movie, which had also spurred a series called La Femme Nikita starring Australian actress Peta Wilson that ran between 1997 and 2001.

The rebooted Melrose Placedebuted in 2009 and is based on a 1990s series about friends living in an apartment complex in West Hollywood. Katie Cassidy, a former pop singer and daughter of 1970s singer David Cassidy starred on the show.

Both the original and remake of Melrose Place featured Heather Locklear as powerful executive Amanda Woodward and Thomas Calabro as manipulative doctor Michael Mancini.

The CW, owned by CBS and Warner Brothers, earlier this year announced it would bring back Gossip Girl, 90210, The Vampire Diaries, America’s Next Top Model, Supernatural and Smallville for the 2010-11 season.
